2022 UTME: JAMB READS RIOT ACT TO CANDIDATES

JAMB has reminded prospective candidates of the need to adhere strictly to examination etiquette, warning that stiff penalty awaits anyone who runs foul of the laid-down rules and regulations governing the examination.

Ahead of the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) slated to hold between 6th and 14th May, 2022, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reminded prospective candidates of the need to adhere strictly to examination etiquette, warning that stiff penalty awaits anyone who runs foul of the laid-down rules and regulations governing the examination.

The Board reiterated its zero tolerance for examination infractions and other unwholesome practices that could undermine the sanctity of its examination.

According to the statement, the Board maintained that, as a responsible organisation, it is as usual, committed to providing a level playing field for all candidates in its upcoming 2022 UTME.

The Head, Public Affairs and Protocols (PAP), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on the code of conduct expected of UTME candidates and the level of the Board’s preparations for the examination said, “The Board’s UTME, apart from being a medium for assessing candidates’ ability, is also used to rank their performance in a cohort of aspirants for tertiary education.”

He added that the UTME, as a standardised test, is guided by rules and regulations that must be strictly followed by both the examiners and examinees to arrive at a valid and specific objective.

He stated further, “Examination etiquette in encapsulated in the candidates’ code of conduct comprising rules and regulations that must be followed by all candidates before, during and after the examination.”He advised the candidates to strictly adhere to the examination schedule as stated in their notification slips which would be made available in due course and would feature the venue, scheduled date, session and time of the examination.

Dr. Benjamin urged all candidates to be at their examination venues at least an hour before the scheduled time so as to afford them the opportunity of going through biometric verification prior to their admittance into the examination hall. He said, any candidate who is 30 minutes late into the examination venue would not be allowed into the examination hall.

Continuing, he said, “all candidates are required to be seated only the allotted seats assigned to them and should follow the instructions as issued out to them by the examination officials and should not attempt to leave the examination hall until one hour after the commencement of the examination.”

The Board’s spokesman reminded the candidates that electronic gadgets and other unauthorised materials like eye glasses unless recommended; USB, fez caps, calculator, tape recorder, camera, wristwatch, bangles, cell phones, among others, are banned within the examination hall.

The Head of National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick Areghan, has explained that there is no clash in its 2022 WASSCE examination dates with that of this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Mr. Patrick Areghan made the clarification during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

Mr. Areghan was speaking against the backdrop of concerns raised by some stakeholders, including parents, that a clash might endanger the performance of some candidates in both examinations.

It should be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had, in a circular dated 5th April, 2022, titled: “Update on 2022 Examinations Timetable for all Examination Bodies” and addressed to all the test bodies in the country, showed a clash in dates.

The purported clash in dates was for both the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), organised by WAEC, and UTME organised by JAMB.

Mr. Areghan, in clarifying the said error said: “Yes, I have seen it too, but that date is not correct.”

With clarification, the Council has put to rest speculations about the possibility of a clash in its examination dates with this year’s UTME organised by the Board.

ALL IS SET FOR A HITCH-FREE 2022 UTME

JAMB has expressed optimism for a hitch-free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to hold between 6th and 16th, May, 2022.

Following the success recorded in the just-concluded mock examination nationwide, the Management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed optimism for a hitch-free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to hold between 6th and 16th, May, 2022.

At the post-examination analysis held to conduct a post-mortem of the examination, the Registrar disclosed that the mock examination, which was conducted in about 757 centres across the federation, was held with little or now hitches.

Accordingly, he stated that the Board was primed to deliver the most seamless examination ever, come May, 2022 and advised proprietors of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres not to rest on their oars but consolidate on the success recorded in the mock examination and deliver an even better outcome in the main examination.

The Registrar stated that the Board instituted the mock examination principally to test its facilities and ascertain its readiness for the main UTME just as it provides candidates with the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the testing system and application. This experience, he said would not only help to boost candidates’s confidence and alleviate test anxiety but also to eradicate technophobia on the part of candidates during the main UTME.

Accordingly, the Registrar restated that the UTME is not just an avenue to test candidates on their abilities and knowledge, “but an avenue to test how well they would perform under pressure. We test, not tempt.”

Continuing, he said, “The mock examination provides candidates with the confidence they need to be as stress-free as possible on the day of the main examination.”

“This gives fillip to the truism that there is no better way to study than to test what one already knows. Taking the mock examination has been shown to be one of the most effective tests of readiness for the main examination.”

MOCK EXAMINATION: JAMB Commends Stakeholders for a Hitch-Free Exercise

JAMB has commended all stakeholders involved in the conduct of the 2022 Mock-UTME for their diligence which resulted in a successful outing.

The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede , commended the stakeholders, which included the Chief External Examiners (CEE); Chief Technical Advisors (CTA), Proctors, CBT centre owners; Technical Officers, Biometric Verification Reporting Officers and others, for the success of the exercise.

JAMB also announced that for the UTME, other actors would be included in due course as examination officials by the Board so as to achieve the desired objective.

It noted that the recently-concluded mock examination was adjudged by stakeholders to be one of the most successful in recent times. They had attributed the success of the exercise to the succinct directives and impeccable decisions of the Board’s management coupled with the tremendous contributions of its field officials.

In another development, the Director, Test Administration, Hajia Munirat Lawal, has enjoined both staff and other stakeholders to redouble their efforts during the upcoming main examination adding that what was experienced during the mock examination should be seen as a dress rehearsal for the main exercise.

It should be recalled that a total of 175,978 candidates indicated interest to participate in the optional mock examination which was held in 757 centres located in 105 examination towns across the country.

MOCK-UTME TO HOLD ON SATURDAY, 9TH APRIL, 2022

The 2022 Mock-UTME is now to hold on Saturday, 9th April 2022, and not Saturday, 16th April 2022, as earlier scheduled.

This change is owing to the realisation that 16th April 2022, earlier chosen is Easter Saturday, a day celebrated by the Christian faithful as a Holy Saturday as it ends the Lenten Season and falls on the day before Easter Sunday.

It would be recalled that JAMB was to begin its registration for the 2022/23 UTME/DE exercise on Saturday, 12th February 2022, but had to push the exercise to Saturday, 19th of February, 2022. The one-week extension had similarly affected the date for the Mock-UTME which also had to be rescheduled.

2022 UTME and DE registration to start Saturday 19 February 2022

The commencement of the 2022/23 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) Registration exercise earlier scheduled for Saturday, 12th February 2022, has now been postponed to Saturday, 19th February 2022, to Saturday, 26th March 2022.

The one-week postponement is to allow for better services.

The Board wishes the general public to note that it is ever-ready to provide world-class services to Nigerians.

Further to the above, the new and improved procedures for the 2022/23 UTME Registration would be available on the Board’s website. The candidates are by this notice, urged to follow keenly the procedures for registration as announced by the Board.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced timelines for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) and Direct Entry registration. The timelines are as follows:

– UTME/DE registration starts 19th February, 2022 and ends 26th March, 2022.

– Mock examination holds on 9nd April, 2022.

– UTME holds from 6th to 16th May, 2022.

JAMB Rejects NABTEB A/L as Entry Requirement for Direct Entry

JAMB has rejected the NABTEB Advanced Level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry into tertiary institutions in the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) Advanced Level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry into tertiary institutions in the country.

This directive became necessary following the discovery that relevant government policies on A/Level programmes do not permit NABTEB from conducting Advanced Level examinations.

The Board, in a statement signed by the Director of Admissions, Mr Mohammed Babaji Ahmed and which was made available to Vice-Chancellors and other Heads of tertiary institutions in the country said that JAMB would not process the admission of any candidate with NABTEB A/L Certificate.

The statement read in parts: “It has come to the notice of the Board that some institutions are accepting NABTEB A/L GCE as a qualification for Direct Entry (DE) Admissions.”

The statement continued, “JAMB is aware that NABTEB is not authorised to offer GCE and is, therefore, compelled to take appropriate action.”

The statement warned that “Any A/L GCE Certificate issued by NABTEB is, therefore, not registrable with JAMB and the Bord would not process the admission of any candidate with such a result.”

JAMB Introduces Computer Studies and Physical and Health Education as UTME Subjects

Candidates sitting UTME can now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of their four UTME subjects

Candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) can now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of their four UTME subjects if they so desire or as dictated by their programme preferences.

This is made possible following the addition, by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , of the two subjects to the existing 23 UTME subjects to make them 25 beginning from the 2022 UTME exercise.

This addition is to enhance the career prospects of students transiting to tertiary institutions. At present, the 23 UTME subjects are: Agricultural Science, Arabic, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Christian Religious Studies, Commerce, Economics, French, Geography, Government, Hausa, History, Home Economics, Igbo, Islamic Studies, Literature-in-English, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Use of English and Yoruba.

Postponement of 2020-21 Unilag Matriculation Ceremony

The Unilag Matriculation Ceremony slated for Friday, January 14, 2022, has been postponed.

This is to inform members of the public and particularly parents and guardians of newly admitted students for the 2020/2021 University of Lagos Academic session that the Matriculation Ceremony slated for Friday, January 14, 2022, has been postponed.

The ceremony will now hold on Friday, January 28, 2022.
