JAMB Rejects NABTEB A/L as Entry Requirement for Direct Entry

JAMB has rejected the NABTEB Advanced Level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry into tertiary institutions in the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) Advanced Level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry into tertiary institutions in the country.

This directive became necessary following the discovery that relevant government policies on A/Level programmes do not permit NABTEB from conducting Advanced Level examinations.

The Board, in a statement signed by the Director of Admissions, Mr Mohammed Babaji Ahmed and which was made available to Vice-Chancellors and other Heads of tertiary institutions in the country said that JAMB would not process the admission of any candidate with NABTEB A/L Certificate.

The statement read in parts: “It has come to the notice of the Board that some institutions are accepting NABTEB A/L GCE as a qualification for Direct Entry (DE) Admissions.”

The statement continued, “JAMB is aware that NABTEB is not authorised to offer GCE and is, therefore, compelled to take appropriate action.”

The statement warned that “Any A/L GCE Certificate issued by NABTEB is, therefore, not registrable with JAMB and the Bord would not process the admission of any candidate with such a result.”

Candidates who wish to enlist for A/Level examinations are to note.

Candidates sitting UTME can now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of their four UTME subjects

Candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation (UTME) can now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of their four UTME subjects if they so desire or as dictated by their programme preferences.

This is made possible following the addition, by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , of the two subjects to the existing 23 UTME subjects to make them 25 beginning from the 2022 UTME exercise.

This addition is to enhance the career prospects of students transiting to tertiary institutions. At present, the 23 UTME subjects are: Agricultural Science, Arabic, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Christian Religious Studies, Commerce, Economics, French, Geography, Government, Hausa, History, Home Economics, Igbo, Islamic Studies, Literature-in-English, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Use of English and Yoruba.

EXPEDITE ACTION ON COMPLETION OF 2021 ADMISSION EXERCISE – JAMB

All tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been called upon to expedite action on the completion of the 2021 Admission exercise.

All tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been called upon to expedite action on the completion of the 2021 Admission exercise.

The call became necessary following the negligible number of fully-processed 2021 Admissions on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) out of the teeming population of eligible candidates with the requisite qualifications yearning for admission.

The Board is aware of the numerous challenges that have impacted the academic calendars of tertiary institutions as well as the smooth processing of admission requests but urged them to devise acceptable means of closing the gap and complete the 2021 Admission exercise on schedule.

The Director of Admissions, Mr Mohammed Babaji Ahmed, while briefing some selected institutional Desk Officers, implored them to interact with their respective institutions to ensure that even if they are not ready for the students to resume, they can conduct such admissions prior to their respective chosen resumption dates to enable their candidates know their fate.

He also disclosed that the Board was on the verge of rolling out the 2022 UTME application documents hence the need for Desk Officers to be proactive. He expressed the resolve of the Board to prevent candidates from incurring unnecessary expenses through buying new e-pins that they may not use if they are eventually admitted.

The Director decried the situation whereby only about one hundred thousand candidates have been processed out of the over six hundred thousand eligible candidates.

It would be recalled that over 1.4 million candidates registered for both the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) out of which only about 600,000 possessed the requisite qualifications to be admitted based on available records with the Board.

SALE OF 2022 UTME AND DE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS STARTS SOON

JAMB will soon commence the sale of application forms for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will soon commence the sale of application documents/registration for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

The Board, is at the moment, engaging its core functionaries in a series of intensive training exercises to ensure that once the date is announced, the stage would have been set for yet another hitch-free exercise.

The release of this information is in line with the Board’s firm determination to ensure that candidates who are desirous of enrolling are ready and prepared. Similarly, it is expected to serve as a wake-up call so that all who may want to register would have gone to first obtain their National Identification Number (NIN), a major prerequisite for the UTME registration.

For those who may want to obtain any of the two application documents, they are advised to get their NIN, familiarise themselves with the Board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS), which would give them an idea of the course requirements and the syllabus they are expected to cover for the examination. IBASS is on the Board’s website and is downloadable on Google Playstore and other similar platforms. The next step is for the candidate to create his/her profile by sending the NIN to 55019 to create a profile for registration.

The Board has put adequate measures in place not only to checkmate those who may want to cheat but also strengthened all administrative procedures for the smooth prosecution of any candidate, centre or even staff of the Board found to have been involved in any infraction starting from the registration exercise.
