How to calculate your total aggregate score for Unilag undergraduate admission

University of Lagos calculates aggregate scores of applicants by weighting 20% to O-Level results, 50% to the UTME score, and 30% to the post UTME score.

In this system of scoring: A1 = 4.0 points; B2 = 3.6 points; B3 = 3.2 points; C4 = 2.8 points; C5 = 2.4 points; C6 = 2.0 points. Grades must be obtained at ONE SITTING.

Following are the steps you should take to calculate your aggregate score:

  1. Divide your UTME score by 8.

  2. Use the form at this link to calculate your O-level aggregate score using only your 5 required subjects for the course you applied for.

  3. Get your Post UTME score.

  4. Add the component scores from steps 1 – 3 above and the score you get is your total aggregate score.

Unilag 2020 post UTME screening notice

All candidates for Unilag post UTME screening are to reprint their exam pass to reflect the new changes regarding post UTME exam venue.

To reprint your exam pass:

  1. Go to http://applications.unilag.edu.ng
  2. Click ‘Continue Application’;
  3. Enter your UTME registration number and surname (in small letters) in the fields provided. This step should login successfully;
  4. Click ‘Print Exam Pass’ to print your exam pass. This step will cause your updated exam pass to download in PDF format.

How to apply for the 2018/2019 Unilag post UTME screening exercise

The University of Lagos online registration for the Post-UTME Screening Exercise for Admission into ALL COURSES/PROGRAMMES for the 2018/2019 Academic Year will commence from 23rd July, 2018 to 3rd August, 2018.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES:

Candidates who made University of Lagos their first choice in the 2018/2019 UTME and scored 200 and above are eligible for screening. In addition, candidates must possess five (5) credit passes at one sitting in relevant O-level subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates, who will not be sixteen (16) years of age by 31st October, 2018 are not eligible and need not apply.

Candidates who do not participate in the Post-UTME Screening will not be considered for admission.

SCREENING FEE: N2,000

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:

Eligible candidates should log on to University of Lagos website unilag.edu.ng and then, take the following steps:

  • Click on Admissions
  • Click on Post-UTME Application
  • Login with UTME number as username and surname in lowercase as
  • Generate and print payment advice
  • Proceed to any commercial bank to make payment or pay online.
  • Return to the University portal to complete the screening form.
  • Print Post-UTME Examination Pass

POST-UTME TEST:

Post-UTME aptitude test will hold from Monday, 6th August, 2018 to Friday, 10th August, 2018.

NOTE: We offer home tutorials for candidates preparing for Unilag Post UTME.

In 2017 the Unilag post UTME aptitude test consisted of 50 questions in English Language, Mathematics, and current affairs. Candidates had 30 minutes each to complete the test.

The results of Unilag post UTME is scaled to 30 points. A minimum of 12/30 points is required for a candidate to be considered for undergraduate admission.

We prepare candidates mentally and psychologically so they know what they need to do to get it right on exam day. Ideally our preparation programme is spread over 6 – 8 weeks to condition our candidates for success.

How to calculate your chances for gaining undergraduate admission into Unilag this 2018 through UTME

By now (May 2018) candidates who wrote the 2018 UTME and who made University of Lagos (Unilag) their first choice can assess their chances of gaining undergraduate admission this year. The first condition is that they must score 200 and above to qualify to write post UTME.

Second, they need to bear in mind that in 2017 Unilag calculated the aggregate scores of candidates by weighting UTME at 50%; O-Level results at 20%; and post UTME at 30%.

If you wrote the UTME you can calculate your UTME component by dividing your UTME score by 8. (400/8 = 50).

O-Level aggregate is calculated using only 5 required O-Level subjects for the course you wish to study as follows: A1 = 4.0 points; B2 = 3.6 points; B3 = 3.2 points; C4 = 2.8 points; C5 = 2.4 points and C6 = 2.0 points. (4.0 x 5 = 20).

For example, let us say Bisi scored 205 in UTME for Theatre Arts (under Creative Arts) and her O-Level results were as follows: English Language – C5; Mathematics – C4; Literature-In-English – C6; Government – A1; and Visual Arts – C6. Her total score so far would be 25.63 (UTME component) + 13.2 (O-Level aggregate) = 38.83 out of 70 points.

Given that in 2017 the merit cut-off score for Theatre Arts was 62.15 points we estimate that Bisi would need 62.15 – 38.83 = 23.32 points in post UTME to have a good shot at the merit list for Theatre Arts.

The 2017 Unilag post UTME was scored to 30 points. The highest score in that exercise was 26/30.

Now, if Bisi feels confident that she could score 23.32 in post UTME then she could press on. However, experience tells us that a realistic target for Bisi would be 20 points. We would thus advise her to consider switching to a course with a 2017 cut-off score of around 56 points like Visual Arts or Music both under Creative Arts in Unilag.

Armed with information about her admission chances a Bisi can decide whether to apply to JAMB for a change course or institution while she still can.

The advice we give is based on data of past performances and the candidate’s academic strength. It has proven to be a sound method of analysis.
