Resumption of Direct Entry Exercise

You will recall that the Board commenced the 2023 Direct Entry registration on Monday, 20th February, 2023, but had to immediately suspend it following the discovery of the plethora of devices and machinations to circumvent and compromise the standard of A’ Level qualifications required from DE candidates.

You will recall that the Board commenced the 2023 Direct Entry registration on Monday, 20th February, 2023, but had to immediately suspend it following the discovery of the plethora of devices and machinations to circumvent and compromise the standard of A’ Level qualifications required from DE candidates. Recall that recent joint operations of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on DE qualifications brought to light some of these unsavoury and nefarious activities. Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has also consistently brought to the fore the high rate of forgery of A’ Level qualifications for DE.

2. For instance, it was discovered that, in previous years, some candidates used unacceptable and forged A’ Level certificates/qualifications to register for Direct Entry and eventually got admitted. For example, out of 148 candidates verified by BUK, only 6 were found to be genuine. By implication 142 of the results were forged. The Board, concerned stakeholders and institutions are working assiduously to detect such and the ones already found, are being dealt with according to the provisions of the law.

3. In order to further checkmate the anomaly and to also prevent recurrence of such irregularity, the Board has decided that the 2023 DE registrations will not only be restricted to JAMB PTCs but will also be done under strict supervision.

4. The Board has provided additional guidelines to all DE registration outlets (JAMB-owned centres), Officers of the Board and candidates on the 2023 Direct Entry registration exercise: –

  1. At the point of registration, all candidates must fill in: –
    1. Registration/Matriculation Number of the previous school attended where the qualification was obtained;
    2. Subject(s) of qualification;
    3. Awarding Institution;
    4. Institution actually attended.
  2. The Board will only recognise and accept thirteen (13) qualifications/certificates for the 2023 Direct Entry registration exercise as highlighted in the table below:-
  3. For those who desire to upgrade from UTME to DE, only candidates with 2023 qualifications (in view) and who also uploaded the required Awaiting Result documents would be allowed to do so (with effect from 2024 registration).
  4. ALREADY REGISTERED CANDIDATES (2023 DIRECT ENTRY) The one hundred and twenty-seven (127) candidates who had earlier registered for the 2023 Direct Entry, before the exercise was suspended, would be requested to return to the registration centres and update their application, so as to comply with the new registration processes.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended until further notice the ongoing 2023 Direct Entry registration exercise, which commenced on Monday, 20th February, 2023, with effect from Tuesday, 21st February, 2023.

Consequently, the Board stated that a new date and fresh registration procedures, which will include Upload of JAMB Admission Letter in the case of OND and NCE, Admission Letter issued by universities in the case of University Diploma and Admission Letter issued by A’ Level examination bodies (IJMBE, JUPEB, etc), would be announced in due course so that candidates could proceed to JAMB offices nationwide to register.

Final Day of the 2023 UTME Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has finally decided to close the books on the 2023 UTME registration exercise as the extension announced the previous week elapsed on Wednesday, 22 February, 2023.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has finally decided to close the books on the 2023 UTME registration exercise as the extension announced the previous week elapsed on Wednesday, 22 February, 2023.

It will be recalled that the Board had granted the extension to accommodate candidates, who could not register for the 2023 UTME within the allowable window of Saturday, 14th January to Tuesday, 14th February, 2023, owing to exigencies related to recent developments in the country.

At the close of the registration exercise, 1,595,779 candidates had successfully registered for the 2023 UTME. This number does not include the Direct Entry component of the exercise, which had commenced on Monday, 20th February, 2023 before it was put on hold on Tuesday, 21st February, 2023.

The Registrar’s monitoring team, which had gone round the country, was in Nasarawa and Delta States on the final day of the exercise to oversee its conclusion.

In Asaba, Delta State, the team visited Trinity Innovation Hub CBT Centre; Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku CBT Centre 1 and 2; Delta State Library CBT and others. It was, however, remarkable that none of these centres had any candidates waiting to be registered indicating that almost all candidates, who desire to register for the exercise had done so.

The same situation was replicated in many centres in Nasarawa State as few candidates were seen at all the centres a day to the closing date and even these were cleared before the close of work. Hense, from every indication, this year’s exercise is shaping up to be the smoothest the Board has ever had.

However, based on reports received from the various monitoring teams across the country, the Board would review its SIM number swap policy as it will now require the Telcos to confirm that the old SIM being put forward for swapping previously belonged to the applicant but had been issued to another person, which would, therefore, preclude the possibility of a SIM welcome back before such swapping would be approved.

Printing of the 2022 UTME notification slip commences April 30th

JAMB has directed all candidates who registered for the 2022 UTME to start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday, 30th April, 2022

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all candidates who registered for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday, 30th April, 2022, ahead of this year’s exercise.

The Director, Information Technology Services, Mr. Fabian Okoro, made the announcement via a statement released on the development.

According to the statement, the 2022 UTME notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who had registered for the 2022 UTME scheduled to hold from Friday, 6th May, 2022 to 14th May, 2022.

In the statement, the Director disclosed that the printing of examination notification slip is compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session and time of their examination. He said, “All candidates are advised to print slips on time so as to know the location of their examination centres, date of their scheduled sessions and time of the examination beforehand especially with the adjustment in examination schedules this year. This would guide them in making necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise as the Board frowns at lateness to its examination, as no excuses would be entertained from any candidates as a stitch in time, saves nine.”

He stated further that “Candidates need not visit any CBT centres for the printing of the notification slip as it can be done at any available internet point, be it private or public. To print the slip, the candidates are to visit https://www.jamb.gov.ng then click on 2022 UTME slip printing then insert registration number to print.”

The slip contains candidates’ important details like registration number, the centre to which they are to sit the examination within their chosen examination town and the expected time to be at the centre.

In a related development, the Board has reiterated that all candidates would be checked into the examination hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) which is also a register of attendance in line with the Board’s policy of “No biometric verification, no examination.”

Candidates are also to note that no examination would be rescheduled for whatever reason.

Therefore, all candidates are advised to prepare ahead and stay close to their examination venues, if possible, they should pay a prior visit to their centres before the date of the examination.

Candidates are also reminded that the ban on prohibited items is still in force. Therefore, candidates should be careful not to run foul of the law as necessary sanctions would be meted out to violators of its code of conduct.

The list of the banned items within the examination hall include, but not limited to: flash drives, smart watches, calculators, recorders, mobile phones, spy reading glasses, jewelleries, among others.

2022 UTME: JAMB READS RIOT ACT TO CANDIDATES

JAMB has reminded prospective candidates of the need to adhere strictly to examination etiquette, warning that stiff penalty awaits anyone who runs foul of the laid-down rules and regulations governing the examination.

Ahead of the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) slated to hold between 6th and 14th May, 2022, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reminded prospective candidates of the need to adhere strictly to examination etiquette, warning that stiff penalty awaits anyone who runs foul of the laid-down rules and regulations governing the examination.

The Board reiterated its zero tolerance for examination infractions and other unwholesome practices that could undermine the sanctity of its examination.

According to the statement, the Board maintained that, as a responsible organisation, it is as usual, committed to providing a level playing field for all candidates in its upcoming 2022 UTME.

The Head, Public Affairs and Protocols (PAP), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on the code of conduct expected of UTME candidates and the level of the Board’s preparations for the examination said, “The Board’s UTME, apart from being a medium for assessing candidates’ ability, is also used to rank their performance in a cohort of aspirants for tertiary education.”

He added that the UTME, as a standardised test, is guided by rules and regulations that must be strictly followed by both the examiners and examinees to arrive at a valid and specific objective.

He stated further, “Examination etiquette in encapsulated in the candidates’ code of conduct comprising rules and regulations that must be followed by all candidates before, during and after the examination.”He advised the candidates to strictly adhere to the examination schedule as stated in their notification slips which would be made available in due course and would feature the venue, scheduled date, session and time of the examination.

Dr. Benjamin urged all candidates to be at their examination venues at least an hour before the scheduled time so as to afford them the opportunity of going through biometric verification prior to their admittance into the examination hall. He said, any candidate who is 30 minutes late into the examination venue would not be allowed into the examination hall.

Continuing, he said, “all candidates are required to be seated only the allotted seats assigned to them and should follow the instructions as issued out to them by the examination officials and should not attempt to leave the examination hall until one hour after the commencement of the examination.”

The Board’s spokesman reminded the candidates that electronic gadgets and other unauthorised materials like eye glasses unless recommended; USB, fez caps, calculator, tape recorder, camera, wristwatch, bangles, cell phones, among others, are banned within the examination hall.

2022 WASSCE: THERE IS NO CLASH IN OUR DATE WITH UTME – WAEC Registrar

WAEC HNO explains that there is no clash in its 2022 WASSCE with UTME

The Head of National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick Areghan, has explained that there is no clash in its 2022 WASSCE examination dates with that of this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Mr. Patrick Areghan made the clarification during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

Mr. Areghan was speaking against the backdrop of concerns raised by some stakeholders, including parents, that a clash might endanger the performance of some candidates in both examinations.

It should be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had, in a circular dated 5th April, 2022, titled: “Update on 2022 Examinations Timetable for all Examination Bodies” and addressed to all the test bodies in the country, showed a clash in dates.

The purported clash in dates was for both the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), organised by WAEC, and UTME organised by JAMB.

Mr. Areghan, in clarifying the said error said: “Yes, I have seen it too, but that date is not correct.”

With clarification, the Council has put to rest speculations about the possibility of a clash in its examination dates with this year’s UTME organised by the Board.

ALL IS SET FOR A HITCH-FREE 2022 UTME

JAMB has expressed optimism for a hitch-free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to hold between 6th and 16th, May, 2022.

Following the success recorded in the just-concluded mock examination nationwide, the Management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed optimism for a hitch-free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to hold between 6th and 16th, May, 2022.

At the post-examination analysis held to conduct a post-mortem of the examination, the Registrar disclosed that the mock examination, which was conducted in about 757 centres across the federation, was held with little or now hitches.

Accordingly, he stated that the Board was primed to deliver the most seamless examination ever, come May, 2022 and advised proprietors of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres not to rest on their oars but consolidate on the success recorded in the mock examination and deliver an even better outcome in the main examination.

The Registrar stated that the Board instituted the mock examination principally to test its facilities and ascertain its readiness for the main UTME just as it provides candidates with the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the testing system and application. This experience, he said would not only help to boost candidates’s confidence and alleviate test anxiety but also to eradicate technophobia on the part of candidates during the main UTME.

Accordingly, the Registrar restated that the UTME is not just an avenue to test candidates on their abilities and knowledge, “but an avenue to test how well they would perform under pressure. We test, not tempt.”

Continuing, he said, “The mock examination provides candidates with the confidence they need to be as stress-free as possible on the day of the main examination.”

“This gives fillip to the truism that there is no better way to study than to test what one already knows. Taking the mock examination has been shown to be one of the most effective tests of readiness for the main examination.”
